MADE IN NEW YORK
September 15 – December 15, 2017
[ PREVIEW ]
Taking pictures is a skill. Weaving visual narratives about American life and style through pensive, revealing street scenes captured spontaneously in one of the world’s most electric cities, is an art.
This is the art of Istanbul-born photographer Mustafa Önder, who has called New York home for the past 16 years. Mustafa’s images seize on the contemporary interplay between everyday life and social context while illuminating the artist’s distinct outsider’s perspective. On the brink of becoming an American citizen, Mustafa offers this retrospective of his images of his new home.
Through his lens, Mustafa explores the essence of his subjects, engaging the intellect and touching the heart. His dramatic, poetic images reveal the artist’s compassion, and invite the viewer to embark on a journey through the human spirit. ‘The City,’ with its vibrancy and diversity, remains Mustafa’s favorite subject.
Behind photography, travel is Mustafa’s second great love. He has criss-crossed the globe to capture compelling scenes, dramatic landscapes, and probing portraits of people at work and play. This artist’s wanderlust resulted in a body of work punctuated by stunning landscape portraiture that plays with color and motion, along with documentary-style images that speak to our humanity.
